Dr. Helen Jane Ridgway and Dr. Mary E. Ridgway Scholarship Endowment

Dr. Helen Jane Ridgway, the sister of Dr. Mary E. Ridgway, and a biochemist at Wadley Institute of Molecular Medicine for 32 years. Dr. Ridgway earned her master’s and Ph.D. at Baylor Research – now known as Baylor Scott & White Research Institute – ultimately serving as Chief of Chemistry and Head of Research. Dr. Ridgway’s research was in hemostasis coagulation. Wadley Institute was one of the first to work with interferon for the treatment of leukemia. Dr. Ridgway worked with hemophiliacs and blood clotting. She traveled all over the world presenting research at the International Congress of Chemotherapy in Prague, Czechoslovak, at the International Society of Hematology Congresses at San Paulo, Brazil; Jerusalem, Israel; Paris, France; and Kyoto, Japan. At the age of 55, Helen moved to Beaumont, Texas to be the Head of Hemostasis at Helena Laboratories clinical laboratory instrument and reagent manufacturer. Helena Laboratories’ clients include major medical centers, small hospitals, large reference laboratories, and small private doctor’s laboratories. Dr. Ridgway served as the Head of Research & Development at Helena for 22 years. Following her retirement from Helen Laboratories,
Dr. Ridgway served as a consultant in Hemostasis for six years until her death at the age of 82.
