Dr. Mary E. Ridgway '71, '74

Dr. Ridgway received her master’s and doctorate in Physical Education from Texas Woman’s University. Dr. Ridgway had a long and distinguished career in higher education serving as a head coach, Professor of Kinesiology, and senior administrator at the University of Texas at Arlington from 197 6 – 2006. Dr. Ridgway was a NCAA Division 1 Volleyball Coach taking her team to five national tournaments. She was also head of the U.S. Wheelchair Sports Team in the 1992 Barcelona Paralympics.

Dr. Ridgway was named UTA Undergraduate Teacher of the Year and elected by her peers as President of the Faculty Senate. She served the UT System through her membership on the Advancement of Women Committee and the Faculty Advisory Committee. During her tenure, she held the positions of chair of the Department of Kinesiology, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Vice President for Undergraduate Academic and Student Affairs. Upon her retirement, she was named Professor Emerita of Kinesiology. Dr. Ridgway participated in Leadership Texas, the Governors Executive Development Program, and the Harvard Management Development Program.
