Carolyn E. Sowell Scholarship Endowment in Elementary Education

Carolyn E. Sowell Scholarship Endowment in Elementary Education was created by Carolyn Sowell. She earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from Texas Woman’s University and her M.Ed. from Texas Tech University. She taught third grade in Midland, Texas, for more than 30 years before retiring in 1994. A lifelong advocate for education and history, Carolyn was active in numerous civic, professional, and historical organizations. Her mother, Mabel Williams Sowell, was also a TWU graduate, earning her degree in 1926. Carolyn’s interests included quilting, genealogy, travel, and her family’s timber farm in Upshur County. Scholarship is to support a student seeking a degree in elementary education.
