Richard D. Sheardy, Ph.D. Endowed Scholarship in Chemistry
Established by Dr. Mary Ridgway ’71, ’74, the Richard D. Sheardy, Ph.D. Scholarship Endowment in Chemistry honors Dr. Richard “Doc” Sheardy, a passionate educator, mentor, and civic science advocate. With a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Florida, he held academic roles at Penn State and Seton Hall before becoming Chair of Chemistry and Physics at Texas Woman’s University in 2006. He led nationally recognized efforts to integrate civic engagement into science. Retired as Professor Emeritus in 2024, Dr. Sheardy’s legacy of mentorship and innovation continues through this endowment, supporting future chemistry students in his honor.
