Douglas K. Newsom Memorial Scholarship for Nursing
Douglas K. Newsom Memorial Scholarship for Nursing was created to honor Douglas Kent Newsom ’21.Douglas Newsom graduated with a BSN degree from TWU in 2021. He then ventured upon a nursing career which he believed was better suited for him than working in real estate after first obtaining a BA degree from Baylor University. Douglas saw a real need for nurses to work in mental health, for which he was well suited because of his deep empathy for others. He felt very much satisfaction in working with hospital inpatients. Their expression of appreciation to Douglas confirmed that for him, nursing was the right fit. Douglas graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas and was an Eagle Scout. He is survived by his wife, Rosa Morin Newsom, and parents Vicki and Kent Newsom of Dallas.
This scholarship is donated because of the love of his family and friends and honors Douglas in the hope that students receiving this scholarship will feel the same empathy and heart for patients as did he.
