Mary Elizabeth Gaunt Roberts

Mary Elizabeth Gaunt Roberts graduated from Texas Woman’s University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. Her husband, Alan J. Roberts established this scholarship endowment in memory of his late wife for students pursuing a degree through the Department of Sociology and Social Work that will prepare students for a career in a field that is dedicated to bettering women’s conditions and the quality of their lives. Student recipients may be undergraduate or graduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or better and they must include an essay with their application including their accomplishments, career goals, personal and professional values, and life experiences.

Mary was much loved by her fellow students. Mona Dean Young Sizer, Class of ’55 said, “My friend, Mary Elizabeth Gaunt Roberts was the most versatile of women with an abundance of talent, of good sense, of humor, and of sensitivity.” Mary loved quilting and worked as a freelance writer contributing to several quilting magazines.
