Elizabeth Dunlap Ferring and Dr. Reid Ferring have established the Elizabeth Dunlap Ferring Scholarship Endowment in Education, aiming to support students pursuing degrees in education. Both educators themselves, they are passionate about fostering the next generation of educators. Following the completion of teacher certification requirements at Texas Woman’s University in 1991, Elizabeth dedicated two decades to teaching third-grade language arts at Sam Houston Elementary. Holding a BA from Rhodes College and an MS in family counseling from Allied Health Sciences at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Elizabeth’s professional journey included roles at MHMR in Dallas and as a counselor for Oklahoma Human Services. Dr. Reid Ferring is an archaeologist, geologist, and Professor Emeritus at the University of North Texas.

In her post-retirement phase, Elizabeth remains actively engaged, serving as a dedicated volunteer at new elementary school libraries. Each week, she devotes time to reading to pre-K and second-grade children, showcasing her enduring passion for education and community involvement. The endowment is set to be awarded for the first time in the 2024-25 academic year, providing support for generations of future educators.
